Um beija-flor grande e robusto de florestas de nuvem andinas e bordas florestais desde a Venezuela até a Bolívia, o Coeligena coeligena exibe plumagem bronze-esverdeada cintilante com garganta verde iridescente e uma distintiva mancha branca no peito. Habita elevações entre 900–2.800 metros e é um defensor agressivo de territórios em manchas de flores. Os incas-bronzeados seguem rotas regulares ao longo de corredores de plantas floridas, em vez de defender territórios únicos. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante com populações estáveis.
