Habitam bordas de floresta, clareiras e jardins, defendendo agressivamente árvores em floração. Os machos realizam espetaculares voos de exibição na altura do dossel da floresta. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante em toda a sua ampla área de distribuição neotropical.
