Ocorre desde a Colômbia e Trinidad a leste até a Venezuela, as Guianas e ao sul pelo Brasil e Bolívia. É uma das amazonas mais comuns e difundidas, vive em bandos ruidosos e dorme em comunidade. É amplamente mantido como animal de estimação na América Latina e internacionalmente.
