Encontrado em floresta montana úmida em elevações de 1.800–3.500 metros. Os machos possuem tufo branco nas pernas e uma cauda violeta-azulada cintilante. São importantes polinizadores de plantas floridas das altas regiões andinas. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante.
