Habita florestas montanas umidas dos Andes setentrionais e centrais na Colombia, Venezuela, Equador e Peru em elevacoes de 600-3.000 metros. Relativamente pouco conhecida em comparacao com outros amazones, e encontrada em casais ou pequenos bandos que se alimentam de sementes, frutas e flores na floresta nebulosa.
