A coruja-das-torres (Tyto alba) é a espécie de coruja mais difundida do planeta, presente em todos os continentes exceto a Antártida e em quase todos os tipos de habitat, de florestas tropicais a campos agrícolas temperados. Caracterizada pelo seu disco facial em forma de coração que canaliza o som para ouvidos assimetricamente posicionados, permitindo-lhe localizar presas no escuro total apenas pelo som. Engole as presas inteiras e regurgita pelotas comprimidas de ossos e pelos indigestos, tornando-a um valioso agente de controlo de roedores para a agricultura.
