O panda-gigante (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) é um animal emblemático da China, célebre pela sua pelagem branca e preta e pela dieta baseada quase exclusivamente em bambu. Seu estado de conservação é vulnerável (VU), é o animal-bandeira da conservação internacional da vida silvestre e sua população apresentou alguma recuperação nos últimos anos.
Sistotrema pistilliferum e um basidiomiceto corticiode que forma crostas resupinadas finas, brancas a cor de creme ceroso, em madeira em decomposicao. Habita florestas temperadas e boreais, crescendo em troncos caidos e ramos de arvores de madeira dura e coniferas. Este fungo saprotrofico decompoe material lenoso morto atraves de processos enzimaticos de podridao branca.
