Pontibacter aurantiacus e uma bacteria Gram-negativa de pigmentacao laranja do filo Bacteroidetes, isolada pela primeira vez do Mar Negro. Habita ambientes de sedimentos costeiros e marinhos salinos. Este quimioeterotropo aerobio produz pigmentos carotenoides e degrada materia organica em ambientes aquaticos salinos.
