원뿔형 부리와 회갈색 깃털을 가진 작고 눈에 잘 띄지 않는 씨앗먹이새로, 콜롬비아와 베네수엘라에서 트리니다드와 기아나에 이르는 남아메리카 북부의 개방 초지, 사바나, 논에 서식합니다. 수컷은 중간 회색이며 날개가 더 어둡고, 암컷은 갈색 줄무늬가 있습니다. 풀씨에서 먹이를 구하는 대규모 무리를 형성합니다. 많은 초지 씨앗먹이새처럼 생태학적으로 잘 알려져 있지 않으며, 초원의 농업적 전환으로 인한 지속적인 압박을 받고 있습니다.
