Trachelomonas helvetica는 단단하고 광물화된 유각(껍질 형태의 케이싱) 내에 싸인 단세포 유글레나 조류로, 유럽 및 그 너머의 담수 연못, 호수, 완만히 흐르는 수역에서 발견된다. 종명은 스위스에서 발견된 데서 유래한다. 다른 Trachelomonas 종들처럼 광합성을 하며 유각 내에서 편모를 이용해 이동한다.

Trachelomonas similis는 Euglenaceae과에 속하는 갑주형 유글레나 조류로, 매끈하거나 약간 장식된 벽을 가진 단단한 유각에 싸여 있다. 연못, 도랑, 완만히 흐르는 하천과 같은 부영양 담수 환경에 서식한다.
