Staphylococcus capitis는 특히 피지선이 풍부한 부위인 인간의 두피와 얼굴에 흔히 발견되는 응고효소 음성 그람 양성 구균이다. 인간과 영장류의 정상 피부 미생물총의 구성원이다. 이 공생 세균은 피부 지질을 분해하며 신생아와 면역 저하 환자에서 기회 감염을 일으키는 경우가 있다.

Staphylococcus simiae는 스타필로코카세아에과에 속하는 응고효소 음성 그람 양성 구균으로, 남아메리카 다람쥐 원숭이에서 최초로 분리되었다. 영장류 숙주의 피부와 점막 표면에 서식하는 기회 공생균이다. 이 발견은 비인간 영장류에 걸친 Staphylococcus 다양성에 대한 이해를 넓혔다.
