Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, among 4 distinct biome types spanning the Australasia and Indomalayan realms. 페루와 볼리비아의 고지 안데스 운무림에 서식하는 중형 Pionus 앵무새로, 자두 왕관 앵무새는 흰 뺨과 녹색 몸통에 뚜렷한 자주-보라색 관 깃털을 보인다. 수목 한계선 근처의 산지 습윤 삼림에서 해발 2,400-4,000미터 고도에 분포하며, Pionus 종 중 가장 고지에 서식하는 종 중 하나이다. 소규모 무리를 이루어 씨앗, 열매, 꽃을 채식한다. 포획 상태에서는 비교적 잘 알려지지 않았으며, 야생 개체군은 최소 관심종이다.
