Thiothrix annulata는 Thiotrichaceae과에 속하는 실 모양의 황산화 감마프로테오박테리아로, 황화물이 풍부한 수생 환경에서 기질에 부착하는 초가 있는 조직사를 형성한다. 환원된 황 화합물을 에너지원으로 산화하며, 세포 내에 원소 황 과립을 저장하여 군집이 흰색을 띤다. 황천, 하수 처리 시스템, 황화물이 높은 담수 하천에 서식한다.
