Gorgeted Woodstar

목걸이별벌새는 2.5g의 몸에 비해 불균형적으로 큰 화려한 무지개빛 핑크-보라색 목걸이 무늬를 지닌 작은 안데스 고산 별벌새이다. 콜롬비아와 베네수엘라에서 북서부 페루까지 해발 1,500~3,500m의 산지 숲 가장자리와 정원에서 발견된다. 모든 별벌새처럼 꽃 근처 열린 공간에서 곤충 같은 윙윙거리는 정지 비행을 한다. 차가운 안데스 밤을 견디기 위해 사망에 가까운 대사 상태인 깊은 야간 일시 동면에 든다.

콜롬비아에서 볼리비아까지 안데스 산맥과 안데스 간 계곡에 서식하는 소형 우드스타 벌새로, Chaetocercus mulsant 수컷은 체중이 불과 2.5g에 불과한 가장 작은 벌새 중 하나이다. 수컷은 선명한 자주색 목 반점과 흰 배, 녹색 옆구리를 자랑한다. 해발 1,500~3,500미터의 삼림 가장자리와 정원에서 발견된다. 체구가 작음에도 공격적이고 기동성이 뛰어나며, 추운 안데스 환경에서 에너지를 보존하기 위해 밤에 동면 상태에 들어간다.
