Tourmaline Sunangel

고도 안데스 산지의 벌새로, 수컷의 황주황색 목깃털이 전기석(투르말린)을 연상시켜 이름이 붙었다. 해발 2,200~4,100m의 파라모 초원, 운무림, 산림 가장자리에 서식하며 콜롬비아, 베네수엘라, 에콰도르에 분포한다. 수컷의 목깃은 빛의 각도에 따라 주황빛 구리색에서 자주색까지 변한다. 모든 태양천사벌새처럼 벌새 중 상대적으로 추위에 잘 견디며, 차가운 안데스 야간의 에너지 절약을 위해 야간 대사율을 크게 낮출 수 있다.
