회색턱은둔벌새는 콜롬비아에서 볼리비아에 이르는 안데스 건조 및 습한 숲에 서식하는 소형 은둔벌새로, 갈색 등, 회색 턱, 흰 끝이 달린 중앙 꼬리가 있는 연한 버프 복부를 지니며 많은 벌새에 비해 수수한 색조이다. 해발 300~1,600m의 숲 내부와 덤불숲 가장자리에서 서식하며, 꽃을 방문하는 체계적인 함정 노선을 따라 이동한다. 수컷들은 영속적인 발성을 통해 암컷을 유인하기 위해 집단 구애 장소에 모인다.
