비행 시 눈에 띄는 버프색 날개 패치와 홍채색 초록빛 윗면을 지닌 크고 독특한 벌새인 버프날개별전두벌새는 에콰도르와 콜롬비아 남부의 습한 산악 산림에 해발 1,500~3,600미터 고도에서 서식합니다. 수컷은 반짝이는 청록색 목 패치와 홍채색 왕관을 지닙니다. 주로 대형 꽃 피는 나무와 착생 브로멜리아드에서 꿀을 먹이로 합니다. 관심대상으로 등재되었지만 안데스 구름 숲 벌채에 취약합니다.
