Dinophysis pulchella는 Dinophysiaceae과에 속하는 해양 플랑크톤성 와편모조류로, 복측면에서 뻗어 있는 두드러진 홈열을 가진 화려한 세포를 특징으로 한다. 클렙토플라스티디라는 과정을 통해 섬모충 먹이에서 엽록체를 포획할 수 있는 혼합영양 생물이다. 일부 Dinophysis 종은 설사성 패류 독화증과 관련된 오카다산 및 기타 지용성 독소를 생성한다.
