Cryptomonas minor는 납작한 콩 모양의 세포체에 피코빌린 함유 색소체를 가진 작은 담수 크립토모나드 조류로, 호수, 연못, 느리게 흐르는 수역에서 발견된다. 길이가 다른 두 개의 편모를 이용하여 운동하며 광합성이 가능하다. Cryptomonas 종은 담수 식물성 플랑크톤 군집의 중요한 구성원으로 동물성 플랑크톤의 먹이가 된다.
