Like other skates, it typically has a flattened, disc-shaped body well adapted for life on or near the seafloor, where it forages for bottom-dwelling prey including small fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates. Reproduction in Bathyraja skates generally involves oviparous egg-laying, with females depositing eggs enclosed in protective cases.
