American Bald Eagle

흰머리독수리(Haliaeetus leucocephalus)는 미국의 국조이자 미국 자연 보전 성공의 상징으로, 날개 폭이 최대 2.4미터에 달하며 북미 전역의 수변 삼림과 습지에 서식한다. 주로 물고기를 포식하는 강력한 공중 포식자이자 청소 동물로, DDT 오염과 남획으로 1960년대에 멸종 위기에 처했으나 농약 사용 금지와 멸종위기종보호법 시행 이후 극적으로 개체수가 회복되었다.

Rhodomonas abbreviata는 Pyrenomonadaceae과에 속하는 광합성 은편조류 편모충으로, 두 개의 불균등한 편모와 붉은색을 띠게 하는 특징적인 피코에리트린 색소를 가진 작고 납작한 세포가 특징이다. 해양 및 기수 연안 수역에 서식하며 나노식물플랑크톤 군집에 기여한다. 이 종과 같은 은편조류는 동물플랑크톤과 종속영양 원생생물의 중요한 먹이원이다.
