ゴルジェテッドウッドスターは、2.5gの体に対して不均衡に大きい華やかな虹色のピンク紫の喉飾りを持つ小型のアンデス高山産ウッドスターハチドリである。コロンビアとベネズエラから北西ペルーにかけての標高1,500〜3,500mの山地林縁と庭で見られる。すべてのウッドスターと同様に、花の近くの開けた場所で虫のような羽音を立てながらホバリング飛行を行う。寒冷なアンデスの夜を生き延びるために、死に近い代謝状態である深い夜間休眠に入る。
