Clubmoss Cudweed

Chevreulia lycopodioides is a small perennial herb in the family Asteraceae native to South America, particularly in the Andes and southern cone regions of the continent. The specific epithet lycopodioides means 'resembling clubmoss,' referring to the plant's small stature and dense, overlapping leaves that superficially recall the appearance of clubmoss (Lycopodium) species. Like other members of the genus Chevreulia, it produces small capitulate flower heads typical of the daisy family, with the heads clustered near the stem tips. The plant grows in grasslands, alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and disturbed areas at various elevations in its South American range. Chevreulia species are adapted to harsh, exposed conditions and often form low, cushion-like mats. The species is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, reflecting its relatively wide distribution within appropriate Andean and southern South American habitats. Members of the Asteraceae are typically well adapted to diverse ecological conditions and many are locally abundant across their native ranges.
