Achnanthes longipesは粘液柄によって底質に直立した状態で付着する有柄性底生珪藻で、細長い細胞が特徴である。海岸の岩、貝殻、大型藻類などに付着し、海洋沿岸域や汽水域の潮間帯に生息する。この光合成珪藻は沿岸海洋生息地の底生バイオフィルム群集に寄与している。
