Xanthomonas campestrisはグラム陰性の桿菌状植物病原菌で、キャベツやブロッコリーを含むアブラナ科植物の黒腐病の原因菌として最もよく知られています。商業的に価値のある多糖類のキサンタンガムを生産し、世界中の感染植物の維管束組織に生息します。この好気性細菌は感染した種子、雨水の跳ね返り、汚染された道具を通じて広がります。

Xanthomonas melonisはXanthomonadaceae科に属するグラム陰性植物病原細菌で、メロン（Cucumis melo）および関連するウリ科作物に細菌斑点病を引き起こします。特徴的な黄色色素のコロニーを形成し、汚染された種子と水を通じて広がります。保全状況は評価されていません。
