Xanthomonas campestrisはグラム陰性の桿菌状植物病原菌で、キャベツやブロッコリーを含むアブラナ科植物の黒腐病の原因菌として最もよく知られています。商業的に価値のある多糖類のキサンタンガムを生産し、世界中の感染植物の維管束組織に生息します。この好気性細菌は感染した種子、雨水の跳ね返り、汚染された道具を通じて広がります。

Xanthomonas cynaraеはアーティチョークとカルドン植物に特異的に関連するグラム陰性植物病原菌です。地中海の農業地域でアーティチョーク（Cynara）属の栽培種に葉斑病と全身感染を引き起こします。この好気性桿菌は雨水の跳ね返りと機械的接触を通じて広がり、アーティチョーク栽培地域に深刻な作物被害をもたらします。
