Rhizocarpon richardii は珪質岩にしっかりと付着したパッチを形成する痂状地衣類で、典型的に暗い原葉体によって区切られた淡い緑灰色から黄色みがかった葉状体を示す。ヨーロッパとその他の地域の山岳および高山地帯にある露出した岩場、崖面、岩石に生息する。この岩石生息性種は大気汚染に非常に敏感である。
