Trechispora microsporeはその名の通り非常に小さな胞子を産生する皮殻状菌である。温帯および亜寒帯林で腐朽広葉樹・針葉樹の丸太の下面に薄い白色〜クリーム色の被殻として生育する。この腐生菌は枯れた木質材料を分解し、森林生態系の栄養素循環に寄与する。
