Japanese Cherry

日本の春の象徴であるサクラ(Prunus serrulata)は、毎年春に白やピンクの花雲を咲かせ、「花見」と呼ばれる数百年の歴史を持つ文化的行事の主役となる。高さ最大25メートルに達し、千年以上の選択的栽培を経て野生のPrunus種から改良された。主に接ぎ木で繁殖する不稔の観賞用品種が多く、200以上の品種が知られており、ソメイヨシノが日本の桜並木の大部分を占める。
