アオウミガメは最も大きなウミガメの一つです。甲羅ではなく軟骨と脂肪の緑色に由来して名付けられました。

Sporosarcina saromensis は日本の北海道にあるサロマ湖(塩水湖)から分離されたグラム陽性芽胞形成球菌細菌である。元の生息地に典型的な冷涼で適度に塩分のある条件に適応している。他の Sporosarcina 種と同様に耐性芽胞を形成でき、一部の菌株は生体鉱化研究に関連した炭酸塩沈殿活性を示す。
