Salinicoccus salsiraiaは塩水土壌環境から最初に単離された好塩性グラム陽性球菌である。大部分の微生物にとって致死的な塩分濃度条件で有機物を分解する好気性化学有機栄養菌で、塩田、塩性土壌、塩水など中程度から高度の塩水生息地で繁殖する。
