Tulostoma fimbratumは、ヨーロッパ以外の地域を含む乾燥した砂質または石灰質土壌の開けた環境、砂丘、短草草地、ステップに生育する有柄のホコリタケ(スティルトボール)菌類です。細い柄の上に小さな丸い胞子嚢が乗り、先端の口部(外皮膜孔)から胞子を放出します。絶滅危惧種に分類されるこの独特な種は、短い開放的な草地の消失と砂の安定化による脅威にさらされています。
