Mastogloia braunii は細胞縁辺に粘液を貯蔵する小区画であるpartitaeが特徴的な底生淡水珪藻類である。温帯および亜熱帯地域のアルカリ性・硬水湖沼や河川の底生帯に生息する。この光合成珪藻類は清澄で適度な栄養分を含む水中の鉱物性基質や水生植物表面に付着する。
