Pedobacter ruberはSphingobacteriaceae科に属するグラム陰性菌で、特徴的な赤色コロニーから種小名が付けられました。土壌環境から分離され、好気性・非運動性の桿菌です。Pedobacter属は土壌・淡水環境に広く分布し、有機物分解に参与します。
