Nitzschia flexaは属の特徴的な外観を与える特有の湾曲または屈曲した縫合線系統を持つ羽状珪藻（網Bacillariophyceae）である。淡水から汽水環境に生息し、底生および浮遊性藻類群集に寄与する。光合成微細藻類として水生食物網と一次生産において基礎的な役割を果たす。
