熱帯南アメリカに生息する鮮やかな色彩のタナガーに似た鳥で、オスのブルーダクニス(Dacnis cayana)は鮮やかなターコイズブルーの羽毛と黒い背中と喉を持ち、メスは緑色です。コロンビアとベネズエラからボリビアとブラジルにかけての湿潤な森林の林冠と森林の縁に生息します。樹冠の葉の間で果実、果物、小昆虫を探し、混種の採餌群に加わることもあります。アマゾンや大西洋森林の生態系で小型果実をつける樹木の重要な種子散布者です。
