ジンベエザメ(Rhincodon typus)は世界最大の魚類で、体長12メートル、体重20トンを超えることがあり、世界の熱帯・温暖な温帯海洋に生息します。その巨大な体にもかかわらず、プランクトン、魚卵、小魚を口を大きく開けて泳ぎながら濾過摂食する無害な種です。プランクトンの大発生を追って大規模な季節的回遊を行います。乱獲、船の衝突、フカヒレ取引により、過去75年間で個体数が約50%減少し、絶滅危惧種に指定されています。
Epaulard
イルカ科で最大の種であるシャチ(Orcinus orca)は体長最大9メートル、体重6トンに達し、北極から南極まですべての海洋に生息しています。独特の方言、狩猟戦略、集団間で異なる文化的伝統を持つ母系ポッドで生活する頂点捕食者です。一部の集団は魚類を、他の集団は海洋哺乳類を専門に捕食します。天敵はなく、シャチは生息するすべての海洋食物連鎖の頂点に位置します。
