大西洋クロマグロ(Thunnus thynnus)は大西洋・地中海に生息する世界最大のマグロ類の一種で、体長3メートル・体重700キログラム以上に達する個体が知られる。IUCNレッドリストでは絶滅危惧(EN)に分類されており、寿司・刺身用として極めて高い市場価値を持ち、1尾が3億円以上で取引された事例もある。体温調節能力と高速遊泳能力(時速70キロ以上)を持つ、硬骨魚類の中でも異例の生理的能力を備えた種である。
