飛翔時に見える特徴的なバフ色の翼斑と輝く緑色の上面をもつ大型の独特なハチドリで、エクアドルとコロンビア南部の湿潤な山地林に標高1,500〜3,600mで生息します。オスは輝く青緑色の喉飾りと虹彩色の頭頂をもちます。主に大型の開花木や着生ブロメリアで花蜜を採食します。軽度懸念に分類されていますが、アンデス雲霧林の森林伐採に敏感です。
