長く尖った冠羽で名付けられた中型ヒバリで、ヨーロッパ、北アフリカ、中国東部までのアジアにかけて乾燥した開けた土地、農地、道路脇、砂漠の縁に生息する。ほとんど木には止まらない地上生活者で、冠羽を立て自信を持って歩く。ほとんどのヒバリより渡り性が低く、多くの個体群は一年中留鳥として生息する。地面と低い止まり木から豊かで旋律的な歌声を披露する。西ヨーロッパの個体群は農業変化により減少している。
