Biogeography

Range

분포범위

Definition

The geographic area within which a species can be found under natural conditions.

Detailed Explanation

Ranges are dynamic — they expand and contract with climate change, disease outbreaks, competition, and habitat alteration. The current range of a species may not represent its historical range nor its climate potential range. Range shifts under climate change are well-documented: species are moving poleward and upslope at rates of kilometers per decade. Range maps underpin conservation planning, IUCN assessments, and predictions of future extinction risk.
