Emperor Penguin

The world's largest penguin, emperor penguins stand up to 1.2 meters and weigh 45 kg, inhabiting the Antarctic continent in some of the most extreme conditions on Earth. They breed in midwinter darkness at temperatures below -60°C, with males incubating single eggs on their feet under a brood pouch for 65 days while females are at sea. Pseudochattonella farcimen is a raphidophyte flagellate known to produce fish-killing toxins in coastal marine environments. It inhabits cold temperate coastal waters of the North Atlantic and North Pacific, particularly in Scandinavian fjords. This toxic flagellate can form harmful blooms that cause mass fish mortality in aquaculture and natural marine settings.
