Sporophile grand-chanteur

A small, seed-eating tanager-finch with a striking yellow face and supercilium contrasting with olive-green body plumage in males, yellow-faced grassquits inhabit weedy fields, grassland edges, and forest clearings from Mexico through Central America and throughout most of South America to Argentina. Highly adaptable and common in disturbed habitats, they forage on grass seeds and small berries. Males sing a high-pitched, buzzy trill from grass stems. Listed as Least Concern; one of the most common grassland finches in the neotropics.
