Colibri porte-épée

A remarkable biological extreme among hummingbirds, sword-billed hummingbirds possess the longest bill relative to body size of any bird — a bill longer than the rest of the body, reaching up to 10 cm. This extreme elongation is a direct adaptation for feeding on the long tubular flowers of Passiflora, Datura, and other deep-throated Andean flowers that other hummingbirds cannot access. Found at elevations from 1,700–3,500 meters in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia.
