Poseidonia is a genus of archaea within the class Halobacteria, characterized by its inhabitants of hypersaline environments. Members of this genus are adapted to extreme salt concentrations and contribute to the biogeochemical cycling of carbon and nitrogen in salt lakes and brines. The group has not been evaluated under conservation criteria.
