<em>Rhexia virginica</em>, the common meadow beauty, is a perennial wildflower in the family Melastomataceae, native to Canada and the eastern United States. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. This species typically grows in acidic, moist to wet habitats including freshwater wetlands, wet meadows, bogs, pond margins, and roadside ditches. Common meadow beauty produces vivid, four-petalled pink to magenta flowers with distinctive yellow stamens, blooming in summer. Its stems are distinctly four-angled and often covered in fine bristly hairs. The genus Rhexia is one of relatively few members of Melastomataceae native to North America, a family otherwise most diverse in tropical regions. The species is valued for its ornamental qualities and is sometimes used in native plant gardens and ecological restoration projects. It plays a role in supporting pollinators including native bees. Its restriction to acidic wetland habitats makes it sensitive to drainage, pH changes, and invasive species competition in the northeastern North American wetlands it inhabits.
