Definition
A trait or allele that is expressed in the phenotype when at least one copy is present in the genotype.
Detailed Explanation
Dominant alleles can be completely or incompletely dominant — in snapdragons, one red and one white allele produce pink flowers (incomplete dominance). Co-dominance occurs when both alleles are fully expressed, as in AB blood type. Dominant does not mean "common" or "better" — a dominant harmful allele like that causing Huntington's disease persists because it causes symptoms after reproductive age.
