Protoperidinium subinerme es un dinoflagelado marino heterotrofico con un robusto cuerpo celular acorazado y espinas relativamente cortas. Habita aguas costeras y neriticas oceanicas en mares templados y subtropicales de todo el mundo. Este protista depredador engulle celulas de diatomeas y otros fitoplancton mediante alimentacion por pallium, convirtiendolo en un componente importante de las redes alimentarias microbianas.
