Pelonema tenue es una bacteria filamentosa delgada e incolora del orden Achroonematales, encontrada en las capas estratificadas con déficit de oxígeno de lagos de agua dulce y masas de agua salobres. Forma tricomas rectos o ligeramente curvados de diámetro estrecho en zonas microaeróbicas a anaeróbicas. Como organismo quimioheterótrofo, participa en el ciclo del carbono en aguas hipolimnéticas.
