Nitrosarchaeum limnae es un arqueon oxidador de amoniaco de agua dulce del filo Thaumarchaeota, aislado de los sedimentos del lago Constanza. Es quimiolitoautotrofo, obteniendo energia de la oxidacion del amoniaco a nitrito y contribuyendo significativamente al ciclo del nitrogeno en ecosistemas de agua dulce. Su descubrimiento puso de relieve que los oxidadores de amoniaco taumarqueales no se restringen a entornos marinos.
